Challenges and Barriers to the Implementation of Renewable Energy Sources

Abstract: This article presents a comprehensive analysis of technological barriers and innovative solutions aimed at accelerating the deployment of renewable energy sources. A review of current technologies identifies major obstacles such as high costs, insufficient infrastructure, regulatory constraints, and technological complexity, particularly in developing regions. Despite notable progress, there remain significant technological challenges that hinder the large-scale adoption of renewable energy. One of the key issues is effective energy storage, since most renewable energy sources are characterized by intermittent generation dependent on weather conditions. Scenario modeling demonstrates that investment levels and government policy have a decisive impact on the growth dynamics of renewable energy’s share in the national energy balance. Expert assessments highlight promising materials and technologies-such as perovskite solar cells and nanotechnologies for advanced batteries-with strong potential to increase efficiency and reduce production costs. The analysis of environmental and economic efficiency confirms that the introduction of innovative solutions contributes to greenhouse gas reduction, accelerates investment payback, and minimizes the environmental footprint. Particular attention is given to modeling the effects of regulatory incentives, investment flows, and technological innovation on progress in the renewable energy sector. The findings confirm the necessity of a systemic approach that integrates scientific research, improvement of the regulatory framework, and stimulation of investment. A crucial task is to create conditions for the large-scale application of emerging technologies, which will increase the share of renewable energy, ensure energy security, and promote sustainable economic development. The article concludes with policy recommendations for overcoming existing barriers and accelerating the transition to sustainable energy on a global scale.
